This is  a special CR2032 coin cell case with Aluminum coated on inside positive can.  It can tolerate higher voltage (upto 5.5V) polarization due to the passivation of the can by the electrolyte component, especially the LiPF6 based electrolyte system by forming a layer AlF3 which is thin enough (several angstrom) to allow electron tunneling, and blocking the dissolution of Al3+ into the electrolyte.

Please kindly read a testing report on this Al-Clad coin cell case by Dr. John B. Kerr's Research Group from
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL) and our special thanks to Dr. John B. Kerr and Dr. Li Yang.

Specifications
  • CR2032 case is made of  SS316 stainless steel
  • Aluminum is clad on inside of Positive case (Bottom part, larger, connect to Cathode with Al current collector), to avoid electrolyte react with steel during > 4.5V high voltage charging
  • Negative case (Top part with insulating O-ring, smaller, connects to Anode with Cu current collector): made of SS316, you may need to put Spring/Spacer in between this case and anode.
  • Dimension (Dia X H): 20mm x 3.2mm
  • Weight: 0.1Oz (2.8grams)
  • Excellent for developing new Li-ion rechargeable battery upto 5.5V because of Al-clad positive case
