MTI President, Dr. X.P. Jiang donated to MRS for setting up a 10 year Postdoctoral Award for recognition and contribution of postdoctoral globally. This award is offered for the first time in MRS history, announced at the MRS Spring 2014 in San Francisco, CA and will be presented at the MRS Fall 2014 in Boston, MA. Why I donate to  MRS post-doctor award

My name is Xiaoping Jiang, President of MTI Corporation and a Chinese. Thanks to MRS for accepting my donation and proposal to set up a Post-doctor award for global material research. This is 10 years commitment made by my family foundation and supported by MTI Corp. The reason I donate for post-doctor award is that I really understood the post-doctoral situation (difficulty & challenges). The post-doctors play a very important role between professor and graduate student, but often get ignored. I was a post-doctor from 1988 to 1991 at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). I worked very hard and dreamed about becoming a Professor because my father also is a professor in materials research, but was not able to find a suitable position after post-doctor. Then, I started MTI Corp in 1994; For 20 years, MTI Corp attended MRS meetings continuously, and served materials research from single crystal substrate to lab equipment. Global material research scientists, especially post-doctor helped MTI Corp's survival and growth. I feel now it is time for me to return the favor.

I hope this award will help post-doctor get better recognition and encouragement to do better research. I wish all of you can realize your dream.
