VTC-200S-GB is a benchtop vacuum melt spinning system for preparing amorphous metallic ribbons up to 2000ºC. Air-sensitive samples can be prepared inside the glove box and transferred to the melt-spinning system without exposure to the air via a transfer tank.  With a direct couple with the glove box,  the sample collection process can also be completed inside a glove box. 

During melt-spinning, metal ingots are melted via induction heating and propelled by pressurized inert gas. A thin stream of the melt is cast onto a spinning copper drum. The rapid quenching and solidification process enables the alloy forms amorphous ribbons in a few seconds. 


  • 7 kW induction heater to melt alloy with ease. 
  • 10 - 20g samples up to 1600°C
  • Ø200mm copper flywheel with max. 31 m/s spinning speed
  • Adjustable distance between crucible and copper wheel. 0~10mm manually
  • One sample transfer tank is included to prevent samples from exposure to air during sample loading
  • Two systems can be isolated by an ISO160-K gate valve to prevent cross-contamination during melt-spinning
  • 208- 240VAC, single phase, 50/60 Hz, 7kW for melt-spinning system
  • 110VAc or 208-240 VAC, single phase, 50/60 Hz, 1.5 kW for the glove box. 
  • Total 8.5 KW.   Calbe inclided , but no plug
Vacuum Chamber

  • Stainless steel vacuum chamber: 300 x 300 x 480 mm
  • Hinged door with quartz observation window (120mm dia.)
  • Vacuum level: 5e-5 torr within 30 minutes by turbopump
  • KF40 and ISO100-K vacuum port is built to the chamber.
  • A vacuum pump or gas purification system is available below.

Induction Heater

  • Induction Heater:
  • Max. sample load: 5 - 20g (Fe based )
  • Max. working temperature: 2000°C
  • Temperature control of the melt-spinning is not available. If needed, please click the link below.
  • Induction coils with different sizes is available upon request. 
  • Water cooling is required for the induction heater. 
  • Two quartz crucibles with an orifice of 0.5 - 1mm dia. are included for materials of melting point < 1200ºC
  • Customized crucibles made of quartz or BN are available upon request at extra cost
  • Optional graphite sheath (graphite casing+quartz insulation+larger induction coil in diameter) are also available upon request at extra cost for refractory and low magnetic permeability materials (such as BiTe, and GaAs) (Please refer to the pictures below and Application Notes for more details)
Spinning Wheel
  • Copper flywheel without water cooling (200 mm Dia. x 40 mm W)
  • 0 - 31 m/s adjustable
  • Max. Speed: 3000 RPM
  • Max. Ribbon width: 12 mm (depended on the nozzle of crucible)
  • The water-cooling wheel is available upon request with extra cost

Collection Tube
  • Spun and solidified material is collected by the vacuum-sealed drum.
  • Collector Length: 300 mm
  • Direct connection with the glove box with a gate valve and flange alignment 
Glove Box Chamber
  • Case Material: Stainless steel 304 with 3 mm thickness
  • Chamber dimension: 1200 mm L x 740 mm W x 900 mm H
  • Openable front window panel (tempered glass, 8 mm thick)
Chamber Condition
  • Automatic regeneration for the purification column
  • Automatic purging function to quickly bring O2 < 100ppm & H2O < 50 ppm before purifying.
  • Automatic pressure control to keep the pressure at a constant level.
  • Water <1 ppm (20 °C, 1 atm)
  • Oxygen <1 ppm (20 °C, 1 atm)
Leak Rate
  • <0.05 vol% / hr (depending on oxygen concentration inside the glove box)
  • Main antechamber Ø360 × 600 L in mm
  • Second antechamber Ø150 × 220 L in mm
Working Gas
  • Operating gas: Inert gas such as N2, Ar, He
  • Regenerating gas: 5% H2 blended inert gas
Gas Purification System
  • Automated regeneration process
  • Automated Water and oxygen purification
  • Purification cylinder: BASF R3-11 Copper Catalyst and Lindy Molecular Sieve
  • Pipeline: 304 stainless steel, KF40, and KF25 ports
Ports & Fittings
  • Total three KF40 ports on the back of the glove box
Gas Filter
  • Inlet and outlet HEPA filter can eliminate particle size > 0.3 μm
  • Carbon and solvent vapor filters are available upon request at the extra cost for flammable vapor
Pressure Control System
  • Automatic pressure control by PLC for the Glove Box Chamber
    • Pressure range: +/- 12 mbar
  • Manual pressure control is allowed via a foot pedal
Purging System
  • An automatic purging system allows easy operating and reduces gas consumption
Control System
  • Siemens PLC control system with 7" touchscreen display
  • Water concentration: 0 - 1000 ppm with an accuracy of 0.1 ppm
  • Oxygen concentration: 0 - 1000 ppm with an accuracy of 0.1 ppm
  • Pressure: -12 to 12 mbar with an accuracy of 0.1 mbar
  • Records for total hours of operation, total regeneration times, time since last regeneration
  • 240 L/m heavy-duty double stage rotary vane pump is included for glove box. 
  • A pair of 9 3/4" butyl gloves is included for immediate use
  • A water-chiller is required but not included, please click the image below to order
  • A separate pumping system is required for melt-spinning but not included.

Application Notes
  • Material testing using melt-spinning is available, otherwise, we use NbFeB as the standard for testing before shipping
  • Please be advised that not every material can be melt spun.  In order to achieve melt-spinning successfully,  the material melt must have a proper viscosity.  It is the customer's responsibility to find the right composition, crucible size, and power supply
  • Ferromagnetic metals are generally responsive to induction heating. For refractory materials, e.g. materials with high melting point (>1200ºC) or low permeability (μ/μ0<100), please consider using BN crucibles with graphite casing for the best performance
  • The equipment also can be modified into a casting and granulating furnace
