EQ-STC-SSI-S is a small splittable test cell with optical grade quartz widow to analyze the interface of solid-state battery electrodes, mainly dendrite growth,  via an optical microscope. 
Two small plates driven by screws would press the cathode, solid electrolyte, and anode electrode together.


Test Cell
  • The cell case is made of Nylon
  • Sealed by the silicone O-rings which is liquid-tight and air-tight
  • Two pressing plates are made of stainless steel 304 with the gold coating
  • Two brass pressing screws for Cathode ad Anode
  • Max Force:  1500N 
  • Note:  May use a digital torque wrench to apply force accurately.
Quartz Observation Window
  • The window is made of optical grade quartz glass
  • Diameter: 50.8 mm
  • Thickness: 0.5 mm
  • Most microscope lenses are compatible
  • Only clean the glass with lens wipes.
  • Note: Glass is fragile and can be attached to the case with adhesive. Please handle with extreme care. In case of fracture or debonding, please click the link to order replacement glasses SSI-WD
Cell Structure and Dimension
  • Cell Structure: Cathode - Solid-state electrolyte - Anode
  • Standard fixture for solid-state electrolyte: 6 mm × 6 mm × 1.5 mm
  • Optional fixtures up to 12 × 12 × 1.5 mm
  • Clcik to enlargen
  • Test piece is compressed and held in place by two compression springs.
  • Material: SUS 304
  • Spring Rate / Stiffness: 0.588 N/mm (60 g/mm)
  • Dimensions when free: 4 mm OD × 3.2 mm ID × 16 mm L
  • Length under maximum compression: 4.4 mm

  • This test cell is compatible with MTI's microscope EQ-MM500T-USB
  • Microscopy pictures showing Steel-Lithium-Steel interface observation at various magnifications
  • > X400 focus becomes difficult due to glass window.
